How Tally makes money
The fee analysis, the fund matches, the alternatives and the projections come from the same engine for everyone. Nobody can pay to change a number, a ranking or a sentence inside your results. Below is every way Tally is paid, and where each one shows up.
Advisor referrals
Tally is not currently paid for advisor introductions. If that changes, this page and the card on your results will say so. Only fee-only, fiduciary advisors are listed, they are shown in alphabetical order, and you choose which one to contact. Nothing is sent unless you fill in the form and tick the consent box. The referral does not change your results.
What the advisor receives: the name, email, phone number and message you type, your state, and the same redacted summary that share links use (fund weights, fund and advisor fee rates, scaled to a $100,000 sample). Your statement and real balances are never sent. Your confirmation email carries a link that withdraws the request and tells the advisor to delete your details.
Advisor-branded versions
Some advisors pay a monthly fee to offer Tally under their own name. Those pages say so at the top. The calculator and the data are identical to this site.
Brokerage links
Where Tally links to a brokerage or robo-advisor, some of those links are referral links that pay Tally if you open an account. Each such link is labeled. The brokerages are listed alphabetically, and whether one pays has no effect on whether it appears or what is said about it.
Benchmark data
If you opt in, an anonymized copy of your result (fund weights, expense ratios, advisor firm and fee rate, a balance range) is added to a public benchmark. Individual records are never shown or sold. You see the exact record before it is sent and can remove it afterwards.
API and embedding
Other apps can pay to use Tally's analysis engine. They receive the same numbers you do.
